Update from SAV bioprocess pilot facility, in Spain

SAV, WaysTUP! project leader, in charge of the Spanish Pilot, has implemented in their Biotech plant the enzymatic kinetics of different commercial enzymes to optimise the first phase of the process of obtaining carotenoids from coffee grounds, hydrolysis. To do this, they are providing each enzyme with a series of environmental conditions, varying the parameters of temperature, pH and substrate concentration.

After observing the kinetics, they will select the most promising ones and compare their performance in terms of their optimal parameters. Not only that, the coffee grounds are also being analysed and will soon be transported to another demo of the project where they will be fed to the larvae of Hermetia illucens, the black soldier fly, in order to obtain animal protein.
